How to Stop being too Busy

We do it to ourselves.  The ancient yogis identified “inclinations” that we have as humans – we incline, or lean, towards distraction.

Yoga came about as a method to end the suffering that distraction causes.

Technology may have sped up our ability to get tasks done more efficiently, but we’re really no different than the ancients.  What’s similar between us are the inclinations.  We lose effectiveness when attempting to multi-task.

It’s been proven that the brain can only handle one topic at a time.

Slow down enough to spot it; you’ll see that multi-tasking means jumping back and forth frenetically between single-tasking.  No wonder we feel too busy.

Choose to stop the madness.  When driving to work, do you really have to be on the phone?  When preparing dinner, do you really have to be checking emails or posting on Facebook?  (There really are no “have to’s.” )

Give the brain a break: completely focus on one thing.  You’ll be more effective – and less busy.
